    AGSI tribute to Macushla ‘rebels’

    AGSI tribute to Macushla ‘rebels’

Fifty years ago the period 4th - 15th November, 1961, saw a traumatic time in the history of An Garda Síochána.
During this week eleven men were dismissed from the force.
Their only ‘crime’ was that they had attended a mass meeting of gardaí in the Macushla Ballroom off Amiens Street a few days earlier – Saturday 4th November, 1961 – that the Commissioner Dan Costigan had ruled to be illegal.

Our picture shows AGSI President Aidan O'Donnell making the presentation to Jack Marrinan who served as general secretary to the garda representative body from 1962 to 1989.
